about

This show was our first time in Minneapolis. It’s cold there, but only sometimes.1989 was just before the decade called the 90’s. In an effort to say good-bye to the old and welcome the new way, we went on a pretty long tour. While every gig can’t be a winner, this one was for a few reasons. Of course rowdyish but polite yet insistent Twin Cityeans is what we learned over subsequent visits was the glorious norm. Second, and I know there was no first, was The Uptown Bar & Cafe, a 4 star easy to play rock place. Lot’s of groovy lineage, but not the kind anyone boasts about. Lastly, and I know it could be thirdly, and also most importantly, was Mrs Stinson. I think she ran the place, not sure, but she treated us like real good kids. We didn’t know she was the mother of the Stinson brothers, but it only made her more elegant. I remember we came back on the morning after to fetch our gear and she made us a great big breakfast. You don’t get that in Milwaukee, no you don’t. This set was pretty nice. Feels like songs we didn’t always play. I confess to some banter edits. I said some things you don’t say anymore. Apologies to history and to the present.

Miracle Legion New Haven, Connecticut

Miracle Legion are a Connecticut-based band that immediately sprang to life on the heels of a post-R.E.M. guitar rock boom, chiefly because lead singer Mark Mulcahy's voice bore an uncanny resemblance to Michael Stipe's, and the arpeggio guitar structures were akin to Peter Buck's. ... more
